Company Overview
Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) is one of 34 public health agencies serving 39 counties in Washington State. Currently, the Health District employs over 220 highly skilled staff, working in over 30 programs which are organized within five divisions, each managed by a division director: Community & Family Services; Disease Prevention & Response; Environmental Public Health; Health Promotion; Laboratory & Methadone Program; and Administration & Vital Records.
The Health District operates on a $23.7 million annual budget, with more than half the revenue from federal, state and local grants. Other funding sources include: service fees, permits, donations, operating reserves and local government assistance.
The Board of Health
SRHD is governed by a twelve-member Board of Health, which includes: 3 Spokane County Commissioners; 3 City of Spokane Council members; 2 City of Spokane Valley Council members; 1 elected official representing smaller cities; and 3 citizen representatives. The Board of Health creates and promotes health policy, ensures compliance with applicable chapters of state law and local ordinances and resolutions, approves budgets and coordinates cooperative efforts to oversee all matters pertaining to public health. The Board of Health is also responsible for the selection, direction and oversight of the Health Officer.
