As an accredited public health department, we're seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Associate Laboratory Director, Newborn Screening within the Division of Medical-Clinical Services, Public Health Laboratory located in Decatur, GA.
This senior management position serves the entire state of Georgia as the Newborn Screening Laboratory for the Georgia Public Health Laboratory (GPHL). The Newborn Screening, Associate Laboratory Director serves as a clinical consultant for the Newborn Screening services, supervises scientific managers, professional/technical staff and administrative support positions.
Job Responsibilities:
This leadership position is responsible for the oversight of scientific and administrative Newborn Screening laboratory operations. This position works directly with the Department of Public Health programmatic and medical follow-up programs to guide development and oversee testing and program objectives. Maintains a culture of quality to assure the delivery of accurate and timely results using proper safety precautions for the Newborn Screening service areas.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Plans, organizes, and directs the laboratory activities for Newborn Screening Services.
Conducts or participates in the development, review, revision, interpretation, and/or implementation for policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
Provides updates to the Newborn Screening Advisory committee.
Provide technical expertise for the development, validation and implementation of genetic testing and result interpretation for existing and new newborn disorders according to the recommended uniform screening panel (RUSP).
Coordinates interaction between department, agency, and facility operating units, other programs, and /or external customers as appropriate
Serves as a technical clinical consultant/resource for colleagues and staff, health department managers and healthcare providers; develops and presents educational and/or training sessions, as needed
Reviews and evaluates the overall quality management system as it applies to their area of responsibility, to include, but not limited to, personnel management, oversight of equipment and inventory procurement, document and records management, and oversight of the quality assessment plan and continuous quality improvement program
Develops, implements, and monitors grants and cooperative agreements for Newborn Screening
Collaborate with senior managers to develop the program’s strategic goals in accordance with the mission of the agency.
Analyzes data, and prepares technical and administrative reports for the laboratory director, and for grants, publications and regulatory requirements
Maintains and fosters communication among staff and with public health partners and customers
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
Serves as integral member of the lab leadership team.
Requirements
Doctorate degree in a related filed from an accredited college or university AND Four years of management/supervisory experience in health care services,
OR Two years at the lower level (HCM013) or position equivalent,
OR
Master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Five years of management/supervisory experience in health care services,
OR
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Six years of management/supervisory experience in health care services.

Education & Licensure Requirements: U.S. citizenship required, and must pass Select Agent (SA) security clearance: (http://www.selectagents.gov/Regulations.html).
Doctorate in a biological, chemical or physical science related field to include, but not limited to medical or clinical laboratory science, medical technology, chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biology, immunology, public health.)
More than 3 years of recent related laboratory work experience in a certified (e.g., CLIA, CAP, EPA, NELAC) clinical, public health or environmental laboratory, including at least 2 years directing or supervising high complexity laboratory testing
Equivalent combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis
Special consideration will be given to applicants with national certification as a laboratory director or technical specialists, or demonstrated experience directly related to the job duties
