JOB SUMMARY:

Individual will assist in the operation of General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Main Chemistry stockrooms. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

40% - Essential - Assists in organizing and scheduling lab equipment for lab periods for 8 different chemistry courses. Prepares or supervises preparation of reagents for approx. 2700 students per week in Fall and 1800 in Spring. Helps with ordering chemical supplies and equipment as needed. Maintains chemical inventory for all 3 stockrooms.

20% - Essential - Supervises maintenance of teaching lab equipment including pH meters, spectrometers, balances, centrifuges, and drying ovens. Reports needed maintenance requests to stockroom manager. Flushes eyewashes and showers in research labs during summer and breaks between semesters.

20% - Essential - Assists in supervising the work of several work study students and graduate teaching assistants each semester. Helps with orientation and enforcement of safety dress codes in the labs. Assists in managing the Gen Chem and Organic stockrooms on a daily basis. Helps in main stockroom as needed. Responsible for locking up building each night after labs end.

20% - Essential - Collects hazardous waste in all labs and supervises disposal in accordance with state and federal regulations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A High School Diploma and work experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting, in a health care setting or in a general maintenance or machine shop environment. A Bachelor's Degree in a related scientific discipline may be substituted for the required work experience.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry

Experience - Journey-level technical exp in related laboratory setting.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees.

No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry

Standard Hrs: 37.5; Expected Salary Range ($ 23,190.00 - $ 28,000.00)
